Jazz at Café Alto
I’ve been on vacation for a few weeks and have a backlog of things to post about, but I wanted to share a video I just finished uploading to YouTube.
On the way home, we had a three day stop in Amsterdam. I like to find a jazz club whenever I visit new places because there are no proper jazz venues here. We were fortunate enough to find a great little club called Café Alto. The club is tiny, cozy, and very welcoming. We were able to get a table near the front of the stage, and heard some excellent jazz from Captain Hook, a jazz funk quintet based in the Netherlands.
These guys were serious musicians. They played all original compositions and the weren’t too heavy on the funk. I definitely noticed how well they played as a group, and really enjoyed listening to their stuff. I recorded one tune on my digital camera. I don’t know the name of the tune, and the sound on the recording isn’t the greatest (too much treble and not enough bass), but I think it does them justice, especially Daan Herweg’s piano solo.
Hope you enjoy that. I’ve almost finished uploading the photos of the trip to my flickr page, so I’ll have some time to post more soon.
